World Travel - I don't want my pictures only in digital land
On this trip we have been crazy taking pictures. They are my favorite souvenir because they, in digital form, are practically free (at least initially) and they capture a moment in time. Looking at them I can remember silly details like the headband that everyone fought over. ...more »

Thailand - Don't Point Your Feet At The Buddha
One of the driving forces in Thailand, like in much of Asia, is Buddhism. Wats (Buddhist temples) dot the land like freckles dot a red-head. They are everywhere! It's not like they are tiny little buildings either. They are usually quite big, ornate buildings that dazzle with details...

Malaysia - Lucky Wanderings
In our original plans Malaysia didn't make the list, but luckily our wanderings brought us there. Malaysia, like Singapore is made of a rich diversity of cultures, the largest being Chinese, Indian, and Muslim. Although diverse, they unite under the slogan "one Malaysia." ...

Singapore - Motivational Posters Gone Wrong
It is most auspicious that we went to Singapore. Well at least it must have been because I heard the the word auspicious more times that week than I'd heard it in my whole life...

Important information about kangaroos... in case you go blind
"How are you going?" This is the common greeting here in the land down under. As much as I try I can't respond back, "Fine. How are you going?" I guess that is how I should respond, but I can only say "I am fine. How are you?"...

When In Samoa, Find Good Friends
While we have been in Samoa, we made some friends that have taken us under their wing. We are not sure of the reason they did, but we are glad because they have been helpful, fun, and we have had many unique opportunities because of them...

Samoa - 1001 Ways To Use A Coconut Palm
In my yard there are men I don't know and their holding machetes...two-foot long knives with sharp blades. Normally this would be quite alarming to me. But hey, this is Samoa. These men are the landscapers. No need for hedge cutters...

Samoan busses rock... literally.
We have been here in Samoa long enough to feel pretty comfortable. It is easy to get around, ask questions, or take care of needs. When we want to go into town (Apia) or somewhere else, it is easiest to get a taxi from our house...

Samoa - When I Grow Up, I Want To Live In A Fale
"It's uncle Bob! It's uncle Bob!" My girls shouted one day as they looked out of the window. I looked at them confused. Their uncle Bob is obviously not here. They told me that they had named a beautiful red and black bird...

Goodbye Costa Rica
I'm sitting in the airport getting ready to leave Costa Rica. Our time here has been great. This week has been especially fun. It started out with going to a place called Tortuguero; a cool place that can only be reached by boat.

Life In Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
Time is going so quickly with three weeks in Costa Rica already under our belt. This place is very much what it's name implies "rich coast" It is rich with natural beauty and a large amount of plant and animal diversity. The place is incredible so it is no wonder that tourism is one of their top industries.

Costa Rica - Gourds Make Great Pinatas
"Those of course are coconut palms," said the caretaker of our beach house. "The big one over there is a type of apple tree and that one," she said gesturing to a tree in the middle of the vacant lot, "is a gourd tree."

Chocolate In Costa Rica
Did you know that a chocolate bean is actually deep purple? Neither did I until we visited a farm where an indigenous woman taught us about the cocoa fruit and showed us how they used it to make chocolate.

Don't Cry For Me Argentina
I have always wanted to stroll into a bakery and buy one of everything in site. In Argentina it seemed like an especially good idea. Walking past bakery window after bakery window, day after day, all filled with yummy looking things was driving me crazy.

Poop! And Other Helpful Information
We forgot to pick up our laundry from the laundry place before it closed, so since all of us sent our pajamas to be cleaned, that leaves whatever we have left that is comfy to wear to bed. Oops! The reasonably priced, full-service laundromat on the corner of our block is the same one we used last week (We haven't seen a self-serve laundromat anywhere, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.).

Tango, Empanadas, The Zoo, Oh My
I have received several comments from family and friends about Richard's recent post detailing vividly what he considers his lack of dancing abilities. Don't pay any attention to what he says, he really isn't a bad dancer. He just hasn't danced much. Besides look at his dance partner- I am no one to criticize him! Give him time, put him in tight pants and he could be a newer, more handsome version of John Travolta. Haahaha.

Buenos Dias from Argentina!
We made it! We are thrilled that the overseas part of our trip has finally begun. Our trip to get here was uneventful- the good kind. The kids did fantastic with the 29 hours of travel which included a five hour drive from Las Vegas, lots of wait time at the airport (we were pretty early), a 9 hour flight to Peru, a 5 hour layover there, and I think a 5 hour flight to Argentina.

I Wish I Had a Bronzed Chipmunk
At the end of our USA travels I am happy to say it was tons of fun. I was afraid that we had planned too much time to spend with our family and that they would really be happy to see us go (they may have been... in fact they would be crazy not to have been happy to have five, poor house-guests go), but we really had a great time with them and we are glad it turned out as it did.
